Dayton, OH, September 20, 2017– Retirepreneur has teamed up with the University of Dayton Continuing Education and Alumni Relations departments to present a workshop: Retirement Reinvented: Striking the Perfect Mix of Purpose & Play, on October 13, 2017 from 8:30 am to 12 pm at the University of Dayton River Campus (1700 S. Patterson Blvd.).

This event is designed for professionals age 50 and older who are interested in exploring how they might find freelance work that’s both flexible and fulfilling. Donna Kastner, UD alum (‘79) and founder of Retirepreneur will moderate the event, which will showcase short talks, alumni start-up case studies, and peer-to-peer discussions.

“In today’s gig economy, opportunities for freelancers are multiplying, especially in fields where demand is high and candidate pools are light,” said Kastner. “Another path we’ll explore is social entrepreneurship, where the focus is on solving a social problem. Whether it’s income generation or something more altruistic, this workshop will help participants explore the options, collaborate with like-minded people, and start mapping out a plan for this next exciting life chapter.”

The workshop will feature a presentation by Vince Lewis, Director of the L. William Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, examining business start-up trends and opportunities for the 50+ segment. Later, Scott Koorndyk, President at The Entrepreneurs Center and Scott Murphy, Vice President at the Downtown Dayton Partnership will join Lewis for a closer look at the Arcade Innovation Hub, a future mixed-use space in Downtown Dayton, designed to enhance collaboration among thought leaders, start-up companies, venture or angel investors and others.

Julie Mitchell, Executive Director, Special Programs and Continuing Education, is excited to bring this workshop to campus.  “The University of Dayton is always looking for ways to provide opportunities for our alumni to shape their professional success and we are excited to help them reinvent what it means to work in retirement.”
